Description

It's the holiday season so what better time to learn about how to create your very own computer light show! There will be a presentation at next week's ARPUG (Arduino/Raspberry Pi User's Group) on everything you need to know about computer-controlled lighting using "Neopixels". "Neopixel" is Adafruit's trade name for the generic WS281x led's which are very common, cheaply available RGB led's that can be easily controlled using a wide range of devices from Arduinos, Raspberry Pi's all the way to complex ethernet/wifi connected controllers capable of controlling thousands of led's! If you've ever seen the Holiday Lights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, this is what we're talking about (albeit on a somewhat smaller scale!)

The presentation will cover the basics of Neopixels, how they work and what you need to control them. We'll discuss the software options available (hint - someone else has already written most of the software for you!) From there we'll see a demonstration of a variety of setups followed by a question and answer session.

And did I mention that everyone who attends will take home a pair of cool holiday light viewing glasses from American Paper Optics? And that one lucky winner will take home an Arduino Uno with a string of lights, ready to go?! You don't have to be a member to attend but we would like you to register (click here) so we'll have an idea of how many people to expect:

Come join us at the space next Monday the 5th at 7pm for some holiday lighting fun!
