Youth Woodworking 101: Build a Ring Toss Game

Join us for an evening of woodworking fun as we construct a wood toss game. Youth ages, 10-13 will have the opportunity to learn best practices for using the miter saw and drill press. With a focus on safety, we will learn about cross-cutting and half-lap joints. If time allows, there will be a chance to decorate your new game, it is great for outdoor or indoor play. 
 
This is a beginner class, no experience is required. Sanitized hearing and eye protection will be provided and masks are required at all times while inside the space. Please wear closed-toe shoes and fitted clothing. We will get dusty! 
 
Class is $25/student.

Educator Bio: 

Char Miller-King started out as a hobbyist woodworker 18 years ago. In 2015, she left her corporate job to become a full-time maker and shop teacher. As a woodshop teacher she holds classes at her local makerspace, various camps, schools, and live online classes. On the weekend she works with children young as seven to make simple projects using the miter saw and drill press. Her primary goals is to give back, nurture new makers and give back to the community, she volunteers with the Girls Makers Club and serves on the Board of Directors at Decatur Makers. To bring more female woodworkers to the forefront, she has written the Women in Woodworking news column for Highland Woodworking in Atlanta. Char is a member of the Woodworkers Guild of Georgia and The Furniture Society. She has been featured in Popular Woodworking and The Family Handyman. As a social media influencer, she creates content for brands such as The Home Depot, Rockler, Popular Mechanics, and Glowforge. She has appeared on PBS, CNN, Magnolia Network and Discovery Plus. Char resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband and four children.
