"Innovators Unleashed: HBCU Heroes and Community Champions"
App Design STEM Camp
We are excited to announce an upcoming Thanksgiving Break Camp, a collaborative effort between Coding with Culture and Decatur Makers. This project-based learning camp is designed for 8-14 year olds and will run from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, with activities scheduled from 9am to 3pm daily.
Coding with Culture, founded with the mission of creating a "Kindergarten through HBCU" pathway in computational and design thinking, brings a unique perspective to STEM education. Our programs emphasize culturally responsive and sustainable pedagogy, focusing on computer science and STEM education for youth ages 8 and up. We are proud advocates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and our curriculum reflects this commitment.
The camp will utilize Mad-Learn, a dynamic platform that empowers students to create mobile apps. Participants will have the opportunity to build an app celebrating HBCUs, bringing awareness to a community issue, or even explore the possibility of combining both themes. This choice allows each student to engage with topics that resonate with their individual interests and passions.
On the final day of the camp, Friday afternoon will be dedicated to the students presenting their mobile apps in a Shark Tank-style event for Decatur Makers members. This exciting culmination will showcase the innovative ideas and technical skills the campers have developed throughout the week.
We believe this Thanksgiving Break Camp will provide a transformative and enriching experience for young learners, blending creativity, technology, and cultural appreciation. We look forward to joining forces with Decatur Makers to make this camp a resounding success.
Please feel free to reach out to Victor “Coach” Hicks at 678.250.4105 if you have any questions or require further information.
Fall Break Camp will run November 20, 21, 22 from 9am-3pm.
The cost of the full camp is $150. Particpants should bring their lunches each day.
This camp will be held both at Decatur Makers and in the adjacent building at FCCD.
