Admission
- $25.00
Description
Whether you’re a crafter, DIY enthusiast, or simply curious about the moldmaking process, this class is perfect for beginners.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of silicone moldmaking. We’ll guide you step-by-step through the process of creating your own reusable molds that can be used to cast resin, wax, clay, and more!
What to expect:
- Introduction to silicone moldmaking materials, tools, and techniques
- Hands-on experience creating your own simple silicone molds to take home
- Tips & tricks for achieving quality results
- Active Q&A to address any specific questions or concerns
While sample items will be available, students are also encouraged to bring their own items to mold (masters). Ideal masters:
- Should have a flat back or base to serve as the top of the mold
- Should be smooth and nonporous
- Should be sturdy enough to demold without breaking
- Should not have overly-complicated shapes that may become stuck in the mold
- Should not exceed 7.01 x 4.33 x 2 inches or 5 x 5 x 3 inches
IMPORTANT: Resin 3D printed masters require plenty of time to air out and an extended bath in isopropyl alcohol to avoid silicone cure inhibition.
ANY contact with sulfur (includes fresh UV resin and some modeling clays,) acetone, duct tape, latex, and certain paints will prevent the silicone from curing.
Print layers, scuffs, or scratches on the master item will be visible in the final cast.
You are encouraged to email Sarah.saginar@gmail.com for any questions about appropriate masters.
